William Brock, a 33-year-old resident of Washington D.C., received a three-year prison sentence for stabbing a fellow inmate in the D.C. Jail on January 24, 2025. The announcement came from U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

Brock entered a guilty plea on February 24, 2025, to one count of attempted assault with a dangerous weapon. Superior Court Judge Judith Pipe ordered that Brock's sentence be followed by three years of supervised release.

Court documents reveal that the incident occurred on January 22, 2025, at the D.C. Jail located at 1901 D Street, SE. Brock attacked the victim, another inmate, from behind, using what appeared to be a makeshift knife to stab him in the shoulder and back. A correctional officer attempted to intervene by using OC spray, prompting Brock to flee up the stairs. Brock then tried to pass the knife to other inmates, who refused to take it, leading him to discard it. He was captured shortly thereafter.

In the sentencing announcement, U.S. Attorney Martin and Chief Smith praised the efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia in their investigation of the case. Special mention was given to Assistant U.S. Attorneys Samuel Ison and Randy Fultz for their role in prosecuting the case.
