Sai Kumar Kurremula, 31, an Indian national residing in Edmond on an immigrant visa, has been sentenced to 35 years (420 months) in federal prison. The sentence results from charges of sexual exploitation of three children and transportation of child pornography, as announced by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
Kurremula faced charges on April 22, 2024, following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that began in October 2023. The FBI was alerted to a Snapchat account engaged in the sexual exploitation of minors. The investigation traced the Internet Protocol address of the account back to Kurremula. Court documents allege Kurremula exploited at least 19 minors on Snapchat, often pretending to be a teenage boy to gain the victims' trust. Upon refusal of his requests, he resorted to manipulation, threats, and extortion to obtain more child pornography.
Kurremula pleaded guilty on June 18, 2020, admitting to the exploitation of three minors and transporting child pornography. He acknowledged threatening his victims to comply with his demands under the coercion of revealing sexually explicit images or threatening harm to their families.
United States Attorney Robert J. Troester commented, “The appalling exploitation, manipulation, and coercion of multiple children by this defendant justly warranted the 35-year sentence imposed by the Court. This case serves as a clear warning to others that the strongest of penalties await those who exploit and victimize our children. I applaud the work done by federal prosecutors and law enforcement for stopping Kurremula from harming any other children and holding him accountable.”
FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge Doug Goodwater added, “This defendant manipulated children into sending him explicit images for his own perverse gratification. These disgusting actions robbed the victims of their innocence and caused unthinkable harm. The dedicated men and women of FBI Oklahoma City will relentlessly pursue those who prey upon children in our communities. Thank you to our partners at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their efforts in holding this defendant accountable. The sentence imposed in this case will serve as a reminder of what is waiting for those who victimize children.”
U.S. District Judge Charles Goodwin handed the sentence on March 27, 2025. Kurremula will also face a lifetime of supervised release following his prison term. Judge Goodwin emphasized the severity of the crimes against such vulnerable victims and acknowledged the lasting trauma inflicted on them and their families. The sentence reflects the gravity of the offenses and their societal impact.
The case was investigated by the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Joynes. It aligns with Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative addressing child sexual exploitation and abuse.
