Jermond Santa Lowery, Jr., a resident of Charlotte, has received a seven-year prison sentence. Lowery was convicted in federal court for brandishing an AR-15 rifle during the robbery of a local Waffle House. This information was announced by Russ Ferguson, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

The announcement was supported by Robert M. DeWitt, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Charlotte Division, and Johnny Jennings, Chief of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

Court documents reveal that the incident took place on October 31, 2023. Lowery entered the restaurant, brandishing the firearm and threatening employees who attempted to escape. He demanded they return and open the cash register, later fleeing with it. CMPD officers arrested Lowery the next day.

Lowery entered a guilty plea on September 26, 2024, for brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He continues to be held in federal custody while awaiting placement by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The investigation was a joint effort by the FBI and CMPD, with the case being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.
