A Millinocket man has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Portland for firearm possession as a felon. Jeffrey Barnard, 61, received a sentence of time served, approximately 22 months, and will undergo three years of supervised release. He had pleaded guilty on March 3, 2025.
Court records indicate that in March 2023, an officer from the East Millinocket Police Department conducted a registration check on a vehicle. The check revealed that the vehicle was registered to an individual with a suspended driver's permit. Upon stopping the vehicle, a confrontation occurred between the officer and the driver, identified as Jeffrey Barnard. With assistance from another officer and a private citizen, Barnard was arrested. During a search, officers discovered a .22 caliber revolver in his jacket pocket. Due to his extensive criminal history, which includes a 2017 conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm following an armed standoff with police in Ellsworth, Barnard is prohibited from possessing firearms.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), along with the East Millinocket Police Department, investigated the case.
