A Ramsey County man, Ricardo Rydell Walker, Jr., has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for a series of carjackings and illegal firearm possession. This sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick.
Court documents reveal that on June 30, 2022, Walker, aged 22, approached the owner of a black 2021 Toyota Highlander after they exited the vehicle. He demanded everything from the driver's pockets and struck them on the head with a handgun. Walker was involved in three additional armed carjackings between February 2021 and June 2022—one in Minneapolis and two in Saint Paul—where he and others used firearms to threaten victims.
Walker was arrested on July 6, 2022, in Maplewood, Minnesota while driving a stolen car and carrying a Springfield Hellcat 9mm pistol. On November 26, 2024, he pleaded guilty to one count of carjacking and one count of receipt of a firearm while under felony indictment. His sentencing took place today in U.S. District Court before Judge Katherine M. Menendez.
The investigation leading to Walker's arrest was conducted by the St. Paul Police Department, Minneapolis Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the FBI.
