Luis Vasquez-Lopez, a 47-year-old Mexican national living in Sacramento, has been sentenced to over ten years in prison for fentanyl trafficking. U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb delivered the sentence of 10 years and one month following charges of possessing fentanyl with intent to distribute. This information was released by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.
The arrest took place on May 22, 2023, when law enforcement stopped Vasquez-Lopez's vehicle in Sacramento. Officers discovered a large brick of fentanyl, a digital scale with residue, and a loaded 9 mm handgun during the stop.
The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force (BINTF), and the California Highway Patrol. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hitt led the prosecution.
