Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced that Nicholas Giuffre, the former owner of a suburban Chicago home repair company, has pleaded guilty to defrauding customers. Giuffre was sentenced to five years in prison by both Cook County Circuit Court Judge Ursula Walowski and Will County Circuit Court Judge Jessica Colon-Sayre, with the sentences to be served concurrently.
Raoul emphasized the importance of consumer protection: “Homeowners should not have to worry about whether remodeling work they pay for will be completed to their satisfaction – or completed at all,” he stated. He affirmed his commitment to holding accountable those who exploit consumers by taking money without fulfilling promised services.
Giuffre operated MDH Concrete and Construction Inc., based in Mokena, Illinois. In June 2023, the Attorney General’s office charged him with entering into home repair agreements with five homeowners and accepting $28,875 for projects he failed to complete. Additionally, Giuffre provided one victim with a fraudulent Certificate of Liability.
The Attorney General's office encourages consumers who suspect fraud to file complaints through its website or contact the Consumer Fraud Hotline at 1-800-386-5438. Assistant Attorney General Maryanne Mlikotic represented Raoul’s Criminal Consumer Fraud Unit in handling these cases.
