A Delaware man, Xavier Curry, age 24, of New Castle, has been indicted in the 2024 shooting death of Edward Fordjour. A grand jury in New Castle County issued the indictment on April 14, 2025, charging Curry with several offenses, including Murder First Degree, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Riot, and carrying concealed and assault weapons. The indictment concluded an extensive investigation by New Castle County Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
Attorney General Kathy Jennings commented on the incident, stating, “This was a tragic and preventable loss... I am deeply grateful to our prosecutors and the New Castle County Police for their work in this case. Our hearts are with the victim’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
Colonel James J. Leonard III emphasized the cooperative efforts involved in reaching this point in the case, mentioning, “This outcome is the result of outstanding teamwork and dedication... I want to commend our officers for their swift and professional response at the scene, and offer my sincere thanks to the Criminal Investigations Unit for their tireless, thorough work in pursuing justice. Their thorough investigation played a key role in bringing us to this point.”
The incident occurred on May 5, 2024, when Edward Fordjour, 42, was fatally shot in the Taylortown Shopping Center parking lot after leaving a nightclub. Fordjour had intervened when a friend was accosted by several people. After ensuring his friend's safety in a car, Fordjour was confronted by the same group, knocked to the ground, and ultimately shot. He was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he died two days later on May 7, 2024.
