A Texas man has been indicted for violating the Federal Controlled Substances Act, according to an announcement from Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Eddie Martinez, aged 44, was charged on March 13, 2025, with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
The indictment alleges that Martinez possessed over 500 grams of a mixture containing cocaine. If found guilty, he could face a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 40 years in prison. Additionally, he may be fined up to $5 million and would have at least four years of supervised release after serving any prison time.
Martinez is also subject to a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
Simpson emphasized that the indictment is merely a formal accusation and that Martinez's guilt must be established beyond a reasonable doubt.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the Louisiana State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Briana Williams from the Narcotics Unit is leading the prosecution.
