The North Dakota Supreme Court is inviting secondary history, government, and social studies teachers to apply for the 2025 Justices Teaching Institute. The application deadline is May 1. This program aims to enhance civic understanding of the courts' role, operations, and judicial decision-making processes.

The Institute is designed to empower educators with knowledge about the nature, history, structure, function, and processes of the courts and legal system. It also promotes civic engagement with the judiciary. Teachers can find more information on the court's website.

Facilitated by North Dakota Supreme Court Justices Jon J. Jensen, Daniel J. Crothers, Lisa Fair McEvers, Jerod Tufte, and Douglas Bahr, the day-and-a-half program allows teachers to delve into the judicial system and criminal court process. Participants will engage in a mock oral argument as justices deciding a constitutional question.

Scheduled for October 16-17 at the State Capitol building in Bismarck, this professional development opportunity is free for teachers. Participants may also apply for one graduate credit from the University of North Dakota.

Interested educators can access the application form on the court’s website. For further details, Lee Ann Barnhardt, Director of Education, can be contacted via email.
