A Honduran man has been sentenced for the illegal use of a Social Security number to secure employment, according to an announcement by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Jose David Sanchez, aged 28, was sentenced on March 13, 2025, for this violation under Title 42, United States Code, Section 408(a)(7)(B).

United States District Court Judge Barry W. Ashe handed down the sentence to Sanchez, which includes time served—approximately four months—a year of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee.

Court documents reveal that Sanchez used the Social Security number of a U.S. citizen in an initial job application. On September 30, 2020, he arrived at the Gulf Coast Safety Council office in St. Rose, Louisiana to complete a safety course necessary for his employment with Company “A.” On this occasion, Sanchez presented a fraudulent U.S. Social Security card with the name and number of a U.S. citizen as his own.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of United States Customs and Border Protection and Social Security Administration agents in investigating this case. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri of the General Crimes Unit.
