A 41-year-old man from Tonasket, Washington, has been charged with receiving and possessing sexually explicit material involving minors. Acting United States Attorney Richard R. Barker announced that Daniel John Kraft was arraigned in federal court on March 10, 2025.
Court documents reveal that the Sanders County Montana Sheriff's Office (SCSO) began investigating in September 2024 after discovering a Snapchat user, "smokeweed5468," soliciting sexual images from a minor. The user also threatened the minor by claiming to know their address and suggesting he would kidnap them and take them to Mexico.
A warrant was obtained for the Snapchat account of "smokeweed5468," which contained over a dozen sexually explicit videos of minors. The account holder allegedly offered drugs and money to minors via Snapchat and asked if they could meet him secretly.
The investigation traced the use of this Snapchat account to Kraft's residence in Tonasket, confirmed by the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office (OCSO). Kraft is a registered sex offender due to previous violations committed in 2013.
On March 5, 2025, Kraft was taken into custody at his home by the Washington State Patrol. Several electronic devices were seized during his arrest. A search of his cellphone reportedly showed Snapchat running in the background along with several sexually explicit images involving minors found on both his phone and the "smokeweed5468" account.
The case involves multiple agencies including Homeland Security Investigations, Seattle Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Eastern Region Washington Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Sanders County Sheriff’s Office, and Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie Van Marter is prosecuting the case.
The complaint against Kraft remains an allegation until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court proceedings.
