Daniel Fuino, a 75-year-old resident of Slingerlands, New York, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the sexual exploitation of a child. The victim was six years old at the time of the abuse. This announcement was made by United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Craig L. Tremaroli, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Fuino had previously pled guilty to charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. He admitted that between summer 2022 and April 2023, he babysat a female child born in 2016 and used her to engage in sexually explicit conduct for producing child pornography. The victim reported the abuse in May 2023 after an elementary school presentation on inappropriate touching and sexual contact.
Following this report, federal authorities executed a search warrant at Fuino's residence in Slingerlands where he confessed to touching the victim’s genitals. Since then, Fuino has been held in pretrial detention.
United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino handed down Fuino's sentence today: 15 years' incarceration followed by another 15 years under supervised release. Additionally, Judge D’Agostino ordered Fuino to pay $36,962.25 as restitution to the victim and imposed special assessments totaling $5,100. Upon his release from prison, Fuino will be required to register as a sex offender.
The FBI led this investigation with support from both New York State Police and Colonie Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin S. Clark prosecuted this case under Project Safe Childhood.
Project Safe Childhood is an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child exploitation via federal prosecution efforts supported by state and local resources across America.
