A Honduran national, Hibis Turcio-Sanchez, aged 45, has pleaded guilty to re-entering the United States after being deported. This announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson on March 13, 2025. Turcio-Sanchez's actions violate Title 8 of the United States Code, Sections 1326(a) and (b)(1).
Court documents reveal that Turcio-Sanchez had previously been deported from the United States on October 17, 2016. Due to a prior felony conviction for assaulting a federal official in 2016, he now faces an enhanced maximum sentence of up to ten years in prison. Additionally, he could be subject to up to three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
The sentencing is scheduled for June 17, 2025, and will take place before United States District Judge Susie Morgan.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Enforcement and Removal Operations and the Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Investigations in their investigation of this case. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit.
