A Honduran citizen, Elio Yoel Cardona-Torres, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for illegal reentry into the United States. The indictment was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the indictment alleges Cardona-Torres was found in Bradford County on February 22, 2025, after having been previously deported from the United States. He was originally removed on June 2, 2010, through Phoenix, Arizona and reentered without obtaining legal permission.
The investigation was conducted by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Zenzinger is handling the prosecution.
If convicted, Cardona-Torres faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine under federal law. The sentence could also include supervised release following imprisonment. Sentencing will be determined by a judge considering federal statutes and guidelines.
It is important to note that indictments are merely allegations, and all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
