The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona has charged 232 individuals with immigration-related crimes during enforcement operations conducted from March 8 to March 14, 2025. The charges include cases against individuals who illegally re-entered or entered the United States, as well as those involved in smuggling activities. Additionally, one person was charged with assaulting a Border Patrol agent.
Federal law enforcement agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Border Patrol, and others supported these cases.
One notable case is "United States v. Edwin Andres Valdez-Gutierrez," where a federal grand jury indicted Valdez-Gutierrez on charges of assaulting a federal officer and reentry of a removed alien after he allegedly reversed his vehicle into an ICE officers' vehicle during an apprehension attempt.
In another case, "United States v. Jorge Fontes-Garcia," Fontes-Garcia faces multiple charges including bringing an illegal alien to the U.S., resulting in death. He allegedly guided a group across the border, leading to one person's death due to heat exposure.
"United States v. Carlos Rene Montes and Miguel Angel Sesma" involves charges related to fentanyl distribution after authorities seized approximately 700,000 pills from their possession.
A criminal complaint or indictment does not imply guilt; individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
