United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler sentenced a Mexican man for illegal reentry after deportation. The sentencing occurred on March 10, 2025.

Celso Diaz-Martinez, aged 52, received a sentence of time served and was ordered to be removed from the United States.

Diaz-Martinez faced indictment by a federal grand jury in November 2024 for illegal reentry after deportation. He was found guilty following a federal jury trial on February 18, 2025.

Trial evidence confirmed that Diaz-Martinez is not a U.S. citizen and had been deported four times before being discovered in Meade County, South Dakota, in November 2024.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement along with the Meade County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anna Lindrooth and Benjamin Schroeder prosecuted the case.

Following sentencing, Diaz-Martinez was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
