A Guatemalan resident has pleaded guilty in a federal court to the charge of illegal reentry into the United States and has been sentenced to time served. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
Eric Estuardo Hernandez-Ramos, aged 19, received his sentence from United States District Judge William S. Stickman IV.
Court records indicate that on January 25, 2025, immigration officials discovered Hernandez-Ramos illegally present in the country. It was established that he had previously been deported on December 18, 2023, after entering the U.S. near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, earlier that month. Following his initial appearance in federal court, Hernandez-Ramos was placed in immigration custody until February 20, 2025, when he was transferred to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service for this charge. He will continue to be detained and subsequently returned to immigration custody.
The case against Hernandez-Ramos was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski.
Acting United States Attorney Rivetti praised U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations for their role in investigating and successfully prosecuting Hernandez-Ramos.
