South Central Judicial District Judge David E. Reich has announced his retirement, effective June 6, 2025. This announcement was made in a letter addressed to Governor Kelly Armstrong. The governor's correspondence regarding this judicial vacancy was sent to Chief Justice Jon Jensen of the North Dakota Supreme Court.
Judge Reich has been serving in the South Central Judicial District #1 since his appointment by Governor John Hoeven in 2006. He successfully ran for election in 2008 and was re-elected in both 2014 and 2020.
Born in Jamestown, ND, in 1956, Judge Reich completed his undergraduate studies at the University of North Dakota in 1979. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1982 and joined the N.D. Bar on October 11 of that year. Before becoming a judge, he worked as a law clerk at the North Dakota Supreme Court from 1982 to 1983 and practiced law privately in Bismarck, ND until his judicial appointment.
