A Cedar Rapids man with a history of federal firearms offenses has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison. Codie Lee Allen Fisher, 35, received the sentence on March 11, 2025, following his guilty plea on September 25, 2024, for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court documents revealed that Fisher was arrested by Cedar Rapids Police Department officers on June 8, 2024. The arrest followed multiple reports of disturbances involving firearms at an apartment complex. During the arrest, Fisher resisted law enforcement and was found with marijuana, a knife, and a loaded handgun.
Fisher's criminal record includes 18 prior convictions, seven of which involved violence. In 2017, he was convicted in federal court for making a false statement when purchasing a firearm and served a sentence of 21 months.
The sentencing took place in Cedar Rapids before United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. Fisher received a prison term of 46 months and will be subject to three years of supervised release after serving his sentence. Federal sentences do not allow for parole.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.
On May 26, 2021, the Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy under PSN. The strategy emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
Fisher remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until he is transferred to federal prison.
Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt prosecuted the case. The investigation was conducted by the Cedar Rapids Safe Streets Task Force comprising members from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
