A Dominican national has admitted guilt in a U.S. District Court in Bangor for his involvement in a fentanyl trafficking conspiracy. Alexis Mariano De Leon, also known as Leon Leon, aged 28, was charged with two counts related to the transportation of fentanyl from Massachusetts to Maine.

Court records indicate that between August 2023 and June 2024, De Leon and others conspired to distribute fentanyl in the Bangor area. The investigation revealed that De Leon used a Facebook account and other methods to facilitate the transportation of fentanyl. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) conducted several controlled purchases and coordinated with the Maine State Police for a traffic stop near Pittsfield in June 2024. This operation led to the recovery of over a kilogram of fentanyl from De Leon's vehicle. Additional evidence, including equipment for compressing powder into brick form, was found at his residence in Massachusetts.

De Leon is facing more than ten years in federal prison, along with a potential fine of up to $10 million and five years to life of supervised release. A federal district judge will decide on the sentence after reviewing the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.

The DEA led the investigation with support from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Maine State Police.
