A Mexican national has been sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison for drug trafficking offenses in the Eastern District of Texas. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr.

Audivier Martinez-Gomez, aged 24 and from Oaxaca, Mexico, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He received a sentence of 135 months in federal prison from U.S. District Judge Michael Truncale on March 11, 2025.

Court documents revealed that on June 18, 2024, Martinez-Gomez was a passenger in an eastbound vehicle stopped for speeding in a construction zone on Interstate-10 in Beaumont. Both Martinez-Gomez and his wife, who was driving the vehicle, provided conflicting stories about their travel plans and appeared unusually nervous during the encounter. A search of the vehicle was conducted with consent, leading to the discovery of THC edibles in the passenger compartment. In the trunk, authorities found large garbage sacks containing multiple bags of crystal methamphetamine weighing a total of 29.6 kilograms.

The case was investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Quinn.
