A former Sarasota, Florida resident has admitted to charges of assaulting federal officers. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti confirmed that Steven M. Seitz pleaded guilty to two counts in front of United States District Judge Robert J. Colville.

The court was informed that on July 9, 2024, Seitz entered the Joseph F. Weis Jr. U.S. Courthouse in Pittsburgh searching for the Central Intelligence Agency and ignored several requests from security officers to leave. When officers attempted to escort him out, Seitz forcibly resisted and assaulted them, causing injuries to at least two officers.

Judge Colville has scheduled sentencing for July 10, 2025. The law allows for a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 or both. The actual sentence will consider the seriousness of the offenses and any prior criminal history.

Seitz remains detained until sentencing.

Assistant United States Attorney Nicole A. Stockey is leading the prosecution on behalf of the government.

The Federal Protective Service and United States Marshals Service conducted the investigation resulting in Seitz's prosecution.
