Robert A. Kohl, a 50-year-old resident of Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 336 months in prison for the production of child pornography. Chief U.S. District Court Judge Matthew W. Brann handed down the sentence on March 7, 2025. After serving his prison term, Kohl will undergo ten years of supervised release.
Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus reported that Kohl pleaded guilty to the charges on September 11, 2024. The investigation began when law enforcement executed a search warrant at Kohl's residence on January 3, 2023, following a cyber tip-off. The forensic examination of several electronic devices uncovered thousands of images containing child sexual abuse material, including a video involving a four-year-old child. Kohl was found to have produced child pornography on five occasions between August 2021 and September 2022.
During the court proceedings, family members of the victims spoke about the severe impact this crime has had on their lives.
The investigation was conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Alisan V. Martin prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. This program aims to coordinate federal, state, and local resources to apprehend individuals who exploit children and rescue victims.
