A federal indictment has been unsealed in Nashville, charging Jose Guadalupe Vazquez-Delgado, a 36-year-old Mexican national, with possession of ammunition by an illegal alien and unlawful reentry into the United States. This announcement was made by Robert E. McGuire, Acting United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee.
Court documents reveal that Vazquez was involved in a heavy drinking session at a house in Antioch, Tennessee, which escalated into an argument with another man. The altercation moved outside where the victim's seven-year-old daughter witnessed Vazquez shooting her father multiple times before fleeing the scene. The victim required emergency surgery after being transported to the hospital. Investigators found 14 shell casings, Vazquez's truck, his Mexican passport, and other items left behind at the scene. Prior to this incident, Vazquez had been deported from the United States to Mexico on at least two occasions.
If convicted of these charges, Vazquez could face up to fifteen years in federal prison for the firearms offense and up to two years for the immigration violation.
Special Agent in Charge Joseph E. Carrico of the FBI Nashville Field Office stated: “Operations like this underscore the FBI's commitment to working with our partners to keep dangerous people and weapons from infecting our communities.” He further emphasized that “The FBI in Tennessee is committed to actively investigating and apprehending individuals wanted for federal violations and those unlawfully present in the United States and remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the Constitution."
The investigation is being conducted by several agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Nashville Field Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ahmed A. Safeeullah and Joshua Kurtzman.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation; therefore, Vazquez is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
