Louisiana man pleads guilty to federal drug charges

Ringo Mitchell Jr., a 36-year-old resident of Natalbany, Louisiana, has pleaded guilty to charges related to the Federal Controlled Substances Act. This plea was entered on February 27, 2025, before United States District Judge Barry Ashe. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson.

Mitchell Jr. admitted guilt to Counts 1, 9, and 10 of the indictment against him. Count 1 involved conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances in violation of multiple sections under Title 21 U.S.C. Count 9 pertained to the illegal use of a communications facility under Title 21 and Title 18 U.S.C., while Count 10 involved possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

For Count 1, Mitchell Jr. faces a potential sentence ranging from five years to forty years imprisonment, a fine up to $5 million, and at least four years of supervised release post-imprisonment. For Count 9, he could receive up to four years imprisonment, a fine up to $250,000, and one year of supervised release following imprisonment. Count 10 carries similar penalties as Count 1.

The indictment reveals that Mitchell Jr., along with seven others, engaged in distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine across Tangipahoa Parish in Louisiana until September 10, 2024. The group allegedly used wire and electronic communications for their operations.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aiming at eliminating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.

Acting United States Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of various law enforcement agencies including the Drug Enforcement Administration and Homeland Security Investigations among others involved in this case. Assistant United States Attorney Lauren Sarver is leading the prosecution for this matter.
