John Christopher Barrilleaux, a 64-year-old social worker from Thibodaux, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for healthcare fraud. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the sentencing, which took place on February 27, 2025. Barrilleaux had previously pled guilty to the charges under 18 U.S.C. § 1347.

Court documents revealed that between 2008 and 2024, Barrilleaux submitted fraudulent claims to private insurance companies for healthcare services that were never provided. To support these false claims, he fabricated patient notes and sent them to the insurers.

The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Barry Ashe. In addition to his prison term, Barrilleaux will face three years of supervised release and is required to pay $4,592,650 in restitution to the victimized companies. A mandatory special assessment fee of $100 was also imposed.

Acting U.S Attorney Simpson acknowledged the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in investigating this case. The prosecution was managed by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas D. Moses from the Financial Crimes Unit and Health Care Fraud Coordinator, along with Trial Attorney Kelly Z. Walters from the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division’s Fraud Section.
