A New Jersey man, Dominick Montgomery, has been sentenced to 144 months in prison for possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon, as well as possession with intent to distribute cocaine. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney John Giordano.
Montgomery, aged 38 and from Plainfield, New Jersey, appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Georgette Castner on October 8, 2024, where he pleaded guilty to the charges. On March 6, 2025, Judge Castner handed down the sentence.
The case against Montgomery stemmed from an investigation into narcotics trafficking in Somerset and Middlesex County areas in October 2021. Law enforcement identified him as a distributor of narcotics. Between October 27, 2021, and January 24, 2022, Montgomery sold eight firearms along with cocaine and fentanyl to an undercover officer. During their last transaction on January 24, he exchanged cocaine and three firearms for $6,750. He was arrested on February 2, 2022, found in possession of a Smith & Wesson pistol and fifteen rounds of ammunition.
In addition to his prison term, Montgomery will also serve three years of supervised release following his imprisonment.
U.S. Attorney Giordano acknowledged the efforts of special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), under Special Agent in Charge L.C. Cheeks Jr., along with the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office led by Prosecutor John P. McDonald for their role in the investigation leading to Montgomery's sentencing.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan N. Linares from the Criminal Division in Newark represented the government in this case.
