John Douglas Looney, an 82-year-old resident of Rochester, NY, has entered a guilty plea to the charge of transportation of obscene material in interstate commerce. This announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo. The charge could result in a maximum prison sentence of five years and a fine up to $250,000.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan K. McGuire is overseeing the case. She revealed that Looney had previously been convicted on federal charges related to possession of child pornography. Between August 2018 and March 2019, he utilized an internet-connected device and an interactive computer service to receive and distribute images and videos of child pornography online. These materials were deemed obscene, depicting prepubescent children subjected to sexual abuse, including some images involving infants or toddlers. In total, Looney possessed over one million images on three computers.
The guilty plea resulted from an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia's direction.
Looney's sentencing is set for July 10, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa.
