U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Christopher Porter, a former postal worker from Angola, NY, has pleaded guilty to mail theft. The plea was entered before U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo and carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Franz M. Wright and Andrew J. Henning stated that between 2021 and May 2022, Porter worked as a City Carrier for the United States Postal Service at the West Seneca Post Office. In October 2021, he stole an envelope containing gift cards from Wegmans and Target, which he then gave to his wife. Additionally, in March 2022, Porter opened envelopes and rifled through mail items on various occasions, causing delays in their delivery.

The investigation leading to Porter's plea was conducted by the United States Postal Service's Office of Inspector General's Northeast Area Field Office under Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Modafferi.

Porter is scheduled for sentencing on July 18, 2025, before Judge Vilardo.
