Adam Terry, a 31-year-old resident of Monkton, Vermont, was arraigned on multiple charges including felony aggravated sexual assault and misdemeanor lewd-lascivious conduct with a child. The charges stem from an investigation by the Vergennes Police Department.
During the arraignment at Vermont Superior Court in Addison Criminal Division, Mr. Terry pleaded not guilty. Judge Robert W. Katims ordered his release under conditions that limit his contact with children and the victims involved in the case. A hearing is pending regarding the State's motion to hold him without bail.
The Attorney General’s Office stated: "Every child deserves a safe childhood." They highlighted resources provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which serves as a centralized reporting system for online exploitation of children. Reports can be made via their 24-hour call center or online.
For those recovering from child sexual exploitation, NCMEC offers support services such as emotional assistance, content removal from the internet, and access to mental health professionals.
The Attorney General’s Office reiterated that individuals charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
