A Lawrence man has been sentenced in a federal court in Boston for making false claims of U.S. citizenship in a passport application. Ruben Dario Guerrero, aged 44, received a sentence of 21 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release. Upon completion of his sentence, Guerrero is subject to deportation.
In November 2024, Guerrero admitted guilt to charges of making a false statement in a passport application and identity theft. The case stemmed from an incident on August 25, 2023, when Guerrero applied for a U.S. passport at a post office in Lawrence. He used the identity details of a deceased U.S. citizen from Puerto Rico and falsely declared under penalty of perjury that he was a United States citizen. However, documents reveal that Guerrero is actually a Dominican citizen.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Matthew O’Brien, Special Agent in charge of the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service at the Boston Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert E. Richardson from the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
