Salvadoran national indicted for illegal reentry into US

Attorneys & Judges

Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney has announced the indictment of Jose Humberto Caceres-Martinez, a 25-year-old from El Salvador, on charges of illegal reentry into the United States after being previously deported. If found guilty, Caceres-Martinez could face up to two years in federal prison.

Court documents reveal that Caceres-Martinez, a citizen and national of El Salvador, was removed from the U.S. on August 20, 2019. He was discovered back in the country on February 17, 2025, following an alleged incident where he fled the scene of a vehicular accident in Brevard County. It is reported that he did not have permission from either the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to apply for readmission into the United States.

An indictment serves as a formal charge indicating that a defendant may have violated federal criminal law; however, it does not establish guilt. All defendants are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

The investigation into this case was conducted by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kaley Austin-Aronson.
