California man sentenced for drug trafficking between California and Maine

Attorneys & Judges

A California man has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor for his involvement in a drug trafficking and money laundering operation. Alex Hanna, 31, received a sentence of 138 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. He had pleaded guilty on March 14, 2024.

Court records reveal that between May 2022 and March 2023, Hanna was involved in trafficking methamphetamine from California to Downeast Maine. The drugs were mailed from a source in California, with Hanna coordinating the shipments and recruiting coconspirators in Maine to receive them. Additionally, he sent sales proceeds back to the source using Walmart2Walmart, Cash App, and Venmo. To conceal his role, he used the identifications and accounts of his coconspirators.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI with support from several agencies including the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Ellsworth Police Department, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Holden Police Department, and Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
