A Louisville man has been sentenced to over three years in federal prison for illegal firearm possession. Cameron Lester, 29, received a sentence of three years and one month, followed by three years of supervised release, after being found with a Springfield Arms .45 caliber pistol and ammunition on August 30, 2024. This conviction comes despite Lester's previous felony offenses that barred him from possessing firearms.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky, Acting Special Agent in Charge A.J. Gibes of the ATF Louisville Field Division, and Chief Paul Humphrey of the Louisville Metro Police Department.

Court documents reveal that Lester's past convictions include an assault in the fourth-degree domestic violence third or greater offense within five years, strangulation in the second degree, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon on July 21, 2023. Additionally, on July 30, 2021, he was convicted of two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, wanton endangerment in the first degree, and another assault charge related to domestic violence.

This case was jointly investigated by the ATF and the Louisville Metro Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Porter prosecuted the case.

Lester's sentencing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program emphasizes building trust within communities while supporting organizations focused on preventing violence before it occurs.

The federal system does not allow parole.
