A federal grand jury in Rockford has indicted a correctional officer from the Federal Correctional Institution in Thomson, Illinois. The officer, Danny L. Spyker, 40, is accused of engaging in sexual acts with two inmates. The alleged incidents occurred in December 2023 and March 2024.
The indictment was returned on February 25, 2025, and unsealed recently. Spyker has been on administrative leave since June 2024 due to these allegations.
The announcement was made by Morris Pasqual, Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, along with William J. Hannah, Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of the Midwest Regional Office of the Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan S. Kim is representing the government in this case.
Authorities remind the public that an indictment consists only of charges and does not serve as evidence of guilt. "The defendant is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt." If convicted, each count carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison. Sentencing will adhere to federal statutes and guidelines.
