A McKees Rocks resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for violating federal firearms law, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti. The indictment charges Mark Edwin Clements III, aged 23, with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon on February 21, 2025. Federal law prohibits convicted felons from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The potential penalties for this charge include a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. However, the actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offense and Clements' prior criminal history, according to federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Assistant United States Attorney Douglas C. Maloney is handling the prosecution for this case. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation that led to the indictment.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. Launched on May 26, 2021, the Department's violent crime reduction strategy under PSN emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting community-based violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
