A Guatemalan citizen has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh for illegal re-entry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the indictment, which charges Edgar Lopez-Gomez, 29, as the sole defendant.

The indictment alleges that on February 20, 2025, Lopez-Gomez was found in western Pennsylvania after being removed from the United States on or about July 18, 2017.

If convicted, Lopez-Gomez faces a maximum sentence of up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history.

Assistant United States Attorney Justin E. Lewis is handling the prosecution. The investigation leading to the indictment was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
