A resident of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges related to violating federal firearms laws. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the development.
Barbara Miller, 33, admitted guilt to three counts before United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon. According to the court, on January 15, July 6, and July 24, 2020, Miller acted as a straw purchaser of firearms. She falsely claimed that she was buying the firearms for herself while purchasing them for another person from federally licensed dealers.
Judge Bissoon has set the sentencing date for July 17, 2025. The law stipulates a maximum penalty of ten years in prison or a fine of $250,000 or both. The actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offenses and Miller's prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is handling the prosecution for this case. The investigation leading to Miller's prosecution was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
