Michael DiGiacomo has been appointed as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York by Attorney General Pamela Bondi. The appointment was made on February 28, 2025, and Mr. DiGiacomo was officially sworn in today by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo. He will serve in this role for 120 days or until a Presidential nominee is confirmed by the United States Senate.
Mr. DiGiacomo has a long history with the U.S. Attorney's Office, having served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney since 2002. His career began in the Narcotics and Violent Crimes Division, where he prosecuted cases involving multi-defendant narcotics traffickers. Later, he transitioned to the White Collar and General Crimes Division, serving as Chief for a decade and overseeing a team of attorneys.
His work in white-collar prosecutions has covered various areas including child exploitation, defense procurement fraud, intellectual property violations, health care fraud, international parental kidnapping, and immigration offenses. Additionally, Mr. DiGiacomo serves as the computer hacking and intellectual property coordinator for his district.
Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. DiGiacomo practiced law privately in Buffalo, NY.
Reflecting on his new role, Mr. DiGiacomo expressed gratitude: “Having served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in this office for the past 23 years, I am both honored and humbled to be chosen to serve as United States Attorney.”
