Travis Lee Harry, a 40-year-old resident of Kernersville, North Carolina, has admitted to making false statements under oath during a bankruptcy case. This admission was made in Bluefield, West Virginia.

Court documents reveal that Harry owned and lived in a house in Princeton, West Virginia, which he sold on December 23, 2019. Subsequently, on February 5, 2020, he filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. In his Statement of Financial Affairs submitted with the filing and signed under penalty of perjury, Harry falsely claimed that he and his spouse co-owned the property and sold it together. At a creditors' meeting held on March 6, 2020, as part of the bankruptcy process, Harry also falsely testified under oath about co-owning the house with his spouse. He has now acknowledged that he was the sole owner and that all proceeds from selling the house were not used to pay taxes as previously indicated.

Harry's sentencing is set for July 7, 2025. He faces a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment along with up to three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced these developments while praising the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for their investigative efforts. The U.S. Trustee’s Charleston field office referred this case to the U.S. Attorney’s Office after identifying potential criminal activity. The United States Trustee Program is tasked with ensuring integrity and efficiency within the bankruptcy system for debtors, creditors, and public stakeholders alike.

The hearing was overseen by Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber. Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan T. Storage is handling prosecution duties.
