Officer-involved death under investigation in Dane County by Wisconsin DOJ

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer-involved death that occurred in the Town of Blue Mounds, Wisconsin. The incident took place on Sunday evening, March 2, 2025.

At approximately 6:21 p.m., a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper attempted to stop a vehicle on U.S. Highway 18/151 near mile marker 52 in Iowa County. The driver did not comply, leading to a pursuit. An Iowa County Sheriff's Office deputy joined the chase shortly after it started. The pursuit concluded when the vehicle crashed near mile marker 65 in Blue Mounds. Emergency Medical Services responded and pronounced the subject deceased at the scene.

No law enforcement officers or members of the public were injured during this event.

The DCI is heading the investigation with assistance from a DCI Crime Response Specialist, Dane County Sheriff's Office, and Mount Horeb Police Department. All involved law enforcement agencies are cooperating fully with DCI's investigation.

DCI is reviewing evidence to establish facts about the incident and will submit their investigative reports to the Dane County District Attorney’s office upon completion.
