Attorney General Pamela Bondi and Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove engaged in a phone conversation with Judge Enrique Camarena, the son of DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. This call followed the recent capture of Rafael Caro Quintaro, one of 29 defendants taken into U.S. custody for prosecution. Special Agent Camarena was abducted, tortured, and killed in 1985.
Pamela Bondi stated, “President Trump and I are committed to holding every member of the cartels accountable for their crimes and to bring justice to the family of each and every victim.” She expressed her condolences to Judge Camarena during their discussion.
The Camarena family released a statement marking this development as a significant moment after four decades. They acknowledged the emotional toll caused by Special Agent Camarena's death and emphasized that this event marks a step toward justice.
“Today is a day we have long awaited," the family stated. "Forty long years of waiting, wondering, and hoping that justice would finally come." The family thanked various law enforcement agencies and President Trump for their efforts over the years.
They extended gratitude to those who supported them throughout their ordeal: “To those who have stood by us...we are forever grateful.”
