Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney has announced an indictment against Mario Antonio Mejia-Calderon, a 34-year-old Honduran national. Mejia-Calderon is charged with possessing a fraudulent permanent resident card and illegal re-entry after deportation. If found guilty on both charges, he could face up to 12 years in federal prison. He has been arrested and detained pending trial.

The indictment states that Mejia-Calderon was discovered unlawfully in the United States on January 24, 2025, after being deported on June 11, 2013. On the same day of his discovery, he allegedly had a counterfeit green card in his possession.

An indictment is a formal accusation of federal criminal law violations, and it should be noted that every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case is under investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO). Assistant United States Attorney Michael J. Coolican will prosecute the case.
