Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Alex Saul Hernandez-Perez, a 33-year-old native of Honduras, pleaded guilty and was sentenced for illegal reentry into the United States after deportation. The sentencing took place on February 20, 2025.

Hernandez-Perez was discovered in St. Bernard Parish on or around October 21, 2024. He had previously been deported to Honduras on June 13, 2019. Following his plea, he was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Jay C. Zainey to time served.
