Marc H. Silverman, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, has announced the sentencing of Godfrey Smith, also known as "Mike" and "Mikey," to 36 months in federal prison. Smith, aged 41 and a resident of Hartford, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny for his involvement in methamphetamine trafficking.

Court documents reveal that in April 2024, the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) Hartford Task Force, along with the Middletown Police Department, conducted a controlled purchase of approximately 53 grams of crystal methamphetamine from an individual in Middletown. During this transaction, Smith was identified as the drug source. On August 22, 2024, another controlled purchase involving about 240 grams of crystal methamphetamine was made directly from Smith in Hartford.

Smith's arrest occurred on September 4, 2024. At that time, law enforcement confiscated around 27 grams of crystal methamphetamine, along with other substances including 44 grams of cocaine and 32 grams of crack cocaine. Additionally seized were $3,200 in cash and a box containing .45 caliber ammunition.

On December 5, 2024, Smith pleaded guilty to charges related to possession with intent to distribute and distribution of five grams or more of methamphetamine. He is currently out on a $100,000 bond but must report to prison by April 30.

The DEA’s Hartford Task Force comprises personnel from various police departments across Connecticut as well as assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The case prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Reed Durham.
