A former executive director of a company providing community living services for adults with disabilities has been indicted on two felony counts following an investigation by a Multi-County Grand Jury. The indictment was unsealed today in Oklahoma City.
Freedom Anderson, aged 46, previously held the position of executive director at Brightway Community Living. She is accused of embezzling over $15,000 between August 2022 and May 2024. Brightway Community Living received state aid to provide various services, but the grand jury found that Anderson allegedly diverted these funds for personal use.
Attorney General Gentner Drummond commented on the situation, stating, "When someone embezzles funds meant to support our most vulnerable citizens, they aren't just stealing money – they're stealing opportunity and dignity from those who depend on these vital services." He further emphasized his office's commitment to prosecuting individuals who misuse their authority to misappropriate taxpayer dollars intended for serving Oklahomans with disabilities.
Due to the nature of her alleged actions across multiple locations in Oklahoma, Anderson faces an additional charge of Engaging in a Pattern of Criminal Offenses in Two or More Counties. The investigation identified instances of embezzlement occurring in Oklahoma County, Tulsa County, Cleveland County, McClain County, and Washington County.
It is important to note that every person arrested or indicted is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
