A Venezuelan national has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Salt Lake City for a gun crime following an alleged shooting incident in Summit County, Utah. Manuel A. Pimentel-Gonzalez, 24, from Eagle Mountain, Utah, was initially charged on February 21, 2025.
Court documents reveal that the incident occurred on May 19, 2024, during a party at a rural property in Summit County. Security footage showed Pimentel-Gonzalez retrieving a large firearm from a parked BMW X7 and shouting profanities in Spanish. Gunshots were heard shortly after he moved out of camera view. Investigators found 42 shell casings and four firearms at the scene.
During a search in Eagle Mountain, authorities discovered a white BMX vehicle with gunfire damage and Pimentel-Gonzalez with an untreated gunshot wound. A Draco 92 firearm linked to the shell casings was also seized. At the time of the incident, Pimentel-Gonzalez was on probation for a previous firearm conviction.
Pimentel-Gonzalez faces charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. His court appearance is pending before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Salt Lake City.
The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti for the District of Utah. The investigation is being conducted by an ATF Task Force Officer with the Utah Department of Corrections, while prosecution is handled by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. The initiative emphasizes trust-building, support for community organizations to prevent violence, strategic enforcement priorities, and result measurement.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
