William J. Ihlenfeld, II U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia

Daryl Smith, a 50-year-old resident of Wheeling, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 120 months in federal prison for distributing cocaine base. This sentence was handed down following Smith's involvement in a drug trafficking operation that extended from Las Vegas, Nevada, to the Ohio Valley.

Court documents and statements revealed that Smith was actively selling cocaine base in Ohio County. His criminal record includes previous convictions for drug-related offenses and assault.

Upon completion of his prison term, Smith will be subject to three years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carly Nogay on behalf of the government.

The investigation involved several law enforcement agencies: the Ohio Valley Drug Task Force, Marshall County Drug Task Force, and Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug Task Force—all funded by HIDTA—as well as the Drug Enforcement Administration; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; West Virginia State Police; Wheeling Police Department; Ohio County Sheriff’s Office; and Belmont County Sheriff’s Office.

U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the proceedings.
