Attorney General Charity Clark has announced the launch of the fifth annual Earth Day Essay Challenge, inviting Vermont's fourth, fifth, and sixth graders to express their thoughts on environmental issues. The initiative aims to engage young minds in environmental discourse by encouraging them to submit essays or other forms of writing, such as stories or poems.
"I always look forward to seeing the enthusiasm that young Vermonters have for the environment and the many thoughtful, creative ways they express that in their writing," Attorney General Clark stated. "These essays provide hope for the future. I also really appreciate the teachers who inspire and support these students in their work."
The challenge is open to all students in the specified grades across Vermont, including those who are home-schooled. Participants have until April 16, 2025, to submit their work. Suggested topics include personal reflections on Vermont's environment, concerns about its future, and ideas for protection measures.
Submissions will be showcased on the Attorney General Office’s public website on Earth Day 2025 (April 22), featuring participants' first names and schools unless otherwise requested. Essays from previous years are also available online.
Further details on submission guidelines can be found on the Earth Day Essay Challenge webpage.
